Chelsea “doing homework” on striker who scored this weekend – but Jackson can get them a good deal

Nicolas Jackson is enjoying a really good spell of form at the moment. In fact, there’s probably never been a time in his spell at Chelsea when he’s been appreciated as much fans and pundits alike.

He’s scored, assisting, and keeping Christopher Nkunku out of the team. The fans who begged for another striker in the summer now maybe feel that spending €120m on Victor Osimhen wouldn’t have been so wise after all.

That doesn’t mean Chelsea shouldn’t be keeping their eyes peeled for another number 9 though, and the latest report from TBR football claims that there’s one player they’re still keeping tabs on very intently.

“TBR Football understands that Chelsea are doing homework on Victor Boniface and have scouted him in recent weeks,” their report reads.

The Blues have apparently watched the Bayer Leverkusen striker “a couple of times this season,” including this weekend just gone, where he scored a late winner.

Chelsea in increasingly strong position as forward talents develop

The better Jackson plays, the less our immediate our need for an alternative, and the better position we’re in. We can sit tight and wait for a good opportunity to arise rather than getting lured into a bidding war or getting selling clubs to sense we’re desperate.

Relying on Jackson alone last season ended up backfiring a little as Nkunku struggled to be fit and Jackson had some rough periods adapting to the league. But right now he looks far more rounded than 12 months ago, and the gamble to go into this season with Jackson backed up by Nkunku and Marc Guiu makes a lot more sense. But we still expect the long term plan to be another true 9 coming in, whether that’s Boniface or another opportunity down the line.
