The 24-year-old arrived at Stamford Bridge last summer and made 31 appearances under Mauricio Pochettino in all competitions, but he has fallen down the pecking order this season.

Filip Jorgensen and Robert Sanchez are battling it out to be Enzo Maresca’s first-choice goalkeeper, leaving Petrovic to make the move to France.

Ligue 1 side Strasbourg are owned by Todd Boehly’s BlueCo, the same ownership group which controls Chelsea, and the relationship between the two clubs has been clear during this transfer window.

Caleb Wiley and Andrey Santos have already left Chelsea to join Strasbourg on loan this summer, while Diego Moreira has made the permanent move from the Blues.

Reports suggest Deivid Washington could join them, with the forward believed to be close to making a £17million switch to Chelsea’s sister club.

Brazilian forward Washington joined the Blues from Santos for a similar fee 12 months ago, before getting just 25 minutes of first-team action last summer across three substitute appearances.
