Chelsea have several questions to answer in the summer transfer window if they want to return to competing at the top end of the Premier League.

The Blues must drop their penchant for signing youngsters and target players ready to lift the club out of its current rot. The West Londoners need a striker, a centre-back, a winger, and potentially a goalkeeper.

Chelsea must address these positions before they can dream of challenging for the Premier League title. The Chelsea faithful are keenly waiting to see how the sporting directors navigate this summer.

Chelsea also welcome several players who have been out on loan and plan to reintegrate some into the first team. However, the players may have other plans in mind.

Weeks ago, Chelsea claimed they would not enter the market for a goalkeeper, despite Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen underperforming between the sticks.

The Blues reportedly plan for Dorde Petrovic to return and compete with them for the number one slot. It appears the Serbian shot-stopper may have other ideas in mind.

Strasbourg are flying in Ligue 1, and Petrovic is excelling in France. He has opened the door to stay with them. Speaking ahead of their meeting with Lyon this weekend, he said (via GFFN): “I am focused on finishing the season in the best way.

“We will see after what could happen this summer. It could be a very good option to stay here if Strasbourg qualify for the UEFA Champions League.”

Strasbourg are only four points away from a Champions League slot. They are in terrific form and could clinch a spot. Meanwhile, Chelsea’s top-four hopes look shaky. Andrey Santos, another Chelsea star on loan at Strasbourg, wasn’t convinced about returning to Stamford Bridge either.

Unsurprisingly so, Chelsea is a volatile environment. Every day, there are new players and frustrating changes. No one wants to be in such a space. Strasbourg has an exciting project they can get behind, and it is up to Chelsea to get their act together and convince these players to stay.
