Chelsea linked with striker whose absurd €23m wages mean he’s on the market

Chelsea’s plans for this summer are focused around signing a new striker, but it’s not yet clear who that might be.
The Blues have looked at a number of options, and the current front runner looks to be Liam Delap. The Ipswich striker is young, powerful, hard working, talented, and with a reported £30m relegation release clause, eminently affordable.
But they can’t put all their eggs in one basket. That appeared to be what happened last summer when they chased Victor Osimhen all summer, only to finally be priced out and find themselves with no Nicolas Jackson alternative. That decision really came back to bite them in the last couple of months, when Jackson’s injury ruled him out and Enzo Maresca’s team were forced to play without a striker at all for some time, losing crucial points in the race for the top 4 along the way.
So there will have to be a few options kept open, and right now that apparently includes interest in Dusan Vlahovic, the beefy Juventus striker.
CaughtOffside report that Juve are desperate to sell him because of his vast €23m per year wages. The Italian side would apparently accept €50m for him, knowing his contract is up in a year’s time.
Even for €50m, we can’t see Chelsea buying Vlahovic. Those wages fit even less into our wage structure than they do into Juventus’. These rumours sound to us like they’re being generated by the Italian club themselves in an attempt to drum up up interest in a player they’re desperate to sell.
Nothing is impossible of course, and perhaps our sporting directors would be willing to come to a compromise for a player they think could change the club’s fortunes really dramatically. But we’re not counting on it.
