Chelsea have made reportedly progress in their bid to sell Conor Gallagher in the summer transfer window.

The midfielder has been heavily linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge over the past year; Aston VillaSpurs and West Ham United have all shown an interest in signing him at various points.

The Blues are eager to offload the midfielder ahead of the forthcoming season, as it is believed he won’t play a key role under new head coach Enzo Maresca and it will help keep them in line with Profit and Sustainability Rules.

The west London outfit accepted a transfer bid from Atletico Madrid for Gallagher, with the Spanish club reportedly setting Monday as the deadline for him to accept the move.

That led to reports claiming Chelsea would exclude the 24-year-old from the first-team squad if he doesn’t agree to leave or sign a new contract.

The discussions were ‘positive’, according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims that both clubs are working towards getting the ‘green light’ from Gallagher.

The transfer expert added that all parties are ‘confident’ of a resolution, although some details of the deal still need to be clarified.

If Gallagher does decide to join Atletico, Chelsea are expected to net €40 million (£33m) from the deal.

“I would keep all the players if I could, and any player in the squad I’ll do my best to use them,” said Maresca on the situation this week.
