Chelsea have made several puzzling transfer moves since the arrival of the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Consortium in June 2022.

The Blues have shelled over £1.3 billion to sign players like Mathis Amougou, David Datro Fofana, Deivid Washington, Caleb Wiley, Angelo Gabriel, Filip Jorgensen, and more.

Many of these names do not move the needle and are not ready to play for Chelsea, yet the club has relentlessly pursued their signature.

Another name amongst the many Chelsea fans will have forgotten is Omari Kellyman. The central midfielder joined Chelsea in a £19 million deal last summer from Aston Villa.

Unfortunately, Kellyman has not been able to make any impact in West London. He has spent most of the season sidelined through injury.

However, the good news is that he is off the treatment table and trying to build fitness.

Kellyman’s hamstring injury caused him to miss out on a move on loan in January. The England Youth international wanted to leave for game time elsewhere, with Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca reluctant to use him.

Kellyman had options from the Championship but stayed at Chelsea to build his fitness back up. He hopes to stay fit till the end of the season and perhaps push for a season-long loan next term.

Chelsea’s sister club, Strasbourg, is a possibility, but he might be more comfortable staying in England. A drop to the second division will develop him physically and technically.

As for Chelsea, they need to curb their extravagances when signing young players for the future. Acquiring all these talents is good, but they will stagnate when there is no room to play consistently. It leads to a lose-lose situation for all involved.
