Chelsea must pull out all the stops to sign Victor Osimhen after recent displays for Nigeria

Chelsea have been spraying money around like confetti since the takeover, with Todd Boehly and the Clearlake consortium picking up from where former owner Roman Abramovich left off.
However, despite the ridiculous amount they’ve spent to revamp the squad, the Blues are still lacking a half-decent goalkeeper, a world-class centre-back, and a prolific striker.
One would think the obvious holes in the squad would push the club to start making some serious moves.
Instead, they’ve just spent £62.5 million to sign future prospects Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo from Sporting CP.
On one hand, both players are highly regarded as some of the best talents on the continent so Chelsea fans have reason to be excited.
On the other, those signings are far from what the Blues need to compete for silverware.
Fortunately, several reports claim signing a prolific striker is firmly at the top of the club’s summer wishlist, and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen is among a number of players on the radar.
Osimhen is currently on loan at Galatasaray. His relationship with the Napoli top brass is dead in the water, meaning a permanent exit is on the cards this summer.
Unsurprisingly, there are no shortage of European giants on his tail, but Chelsea have to pull out all the stops to make sure he ends up at Stamford Bridge.
Osimhen is currently on international duty with the Nigerian national team and is spearheading their bid to secure a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
He netted a brace to hand Nigeria a crucial 2-0 win against Rwanda and was nearly the match-winner again against Zimbabwe.
He gave the Super Eagles the lead at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, but Eric Chelle’s side were undone by a last-minute equaliser.
His recent performances for Nigeria have reaffirmed his status as one of the best strikers on the market.
If that isn’t enough, the 26-year-old has notched 26 goals and five assists in 30 games across all competitions for Gala.
Osimhen has a £63m (€75m) release clause in his contract, which should be a no-brainer for Chelsea, given their unhealthy spending habits.
He’s exactly the kind of striker Enzo Maresca’s side need to reclaim their spot in the upper echelons of the English top flight and compete for honours across multiple fronts.
Fortunately for Chelsea, Osimhen has previously stressed that he wants to play in the Premier League and wouldn’t be opposed to joining the West London outfit.
Unfortunately for Chelsea, they may not stand a chance if they don’t qualify for the Champions League.
The Blues are on course to make that happen as they sit fourth in the Premier League table, but a lot can happen in the remaining nine games.
