Chelsea want to give Carney Chukwuemeka a chance but are open to selling the midfielder in 2025 if he doesn’t change the management’s opinion on him according to Ben Jacobs.

It was once again a busy summer with multiple new faces coming through the door at Stamford Bridge, whilst the Blues were also able to move a number of players on.

Chelsea were able to find new homes for the likes of Raheem Sterling, Trevoh Chalobah and Armando Broja, but there were several players who were unable to sort moves away and are now left in limbo.

Chelsea want to give Chukwuemeka a chance

Chuwkuemeka, who arrived at Chelsea in 2022 in a deal worth around £20m falls into that category with his time in West London plagued by injury issues.

It appeared the 20-year-old would be part of the plans under Enzo Maresca, but after starting the first two games of pre-season he hasn’t kicked a ball for the club since.

It seems highly unlikely that Chukwuemeka would make a move to Turkey this week, with their market still open and he’s still training with the first team squad.

Chukwuemeka has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

However, the midfielder may have been handed a lifeline after being named in Chelsea’s squad for the league phase of the Europa Conference League and Jacobs has reported the Blues want to give Chukwuemeka an opportunity.

“Chelsea, don’t look at Chukwuemeka as somebody that is a big outlay on the wage bill. Nor was he signed for a particularly large fee,” he told GIVEMESPORT.

“It was a big fee, given his age and his profile at the time, but it’s under £20million all in so Chelsea, want to give the player the opportunity to maybe change their mind or move higher in the pecking order, and that may come through a loan to get him more minutes, or if something can’t be facilitated, they’ll be open for a sale in 2025.”

When he has been on the pitch Chukwuemeka has shown glimpses of the quality he possesses, but injuries have limited him to just 27 appearances across two seasons and he has fallen down the pecking order.

There could well be opportunities for the former Villa man, but he faces a tough task to work his way back into contention.
