Chelsea hand Everton at bay to earn a Premier League win in the race to finish in the top five.

Nicolas Jackson scored the only goal of the game - and was an offside flag away from a second - but Robert Sanchez was also required to twice produce big saves to deny the Toffees.

It was a performance as important at the back as it was up top as the Blues moved into fourth place.

Here’s how Enzo Maresca’s side rated at Stamford Bridge...

Robert Sanchez 6

Lack of authority under the high ball is startling, not least to his defenders. But came up with two huge saves late on from Beto and McNeil.

Moises Caicedo 6

Shifted to a right-back to accommodate Lavia’s return and did little other than bring security. Within seconds of being restored to midfield, he ran the length of the field and almost scored.

Trevor Chalobah 8

Outstanding. Sharp, aggressive defending won the ball for opener, after header had already denied Beto a fine chance six yards out.

Levi Colwill 5

Not cute enough in physical battle with Beto. Bailed out more than once by Chalobah.

Marc Cucurella 7

Asked to play a more conservative role than usual in rejigged system but still almost opened the scoring. Solid going the other way.

Romeo Lavia 6

Made his first start in three months and looked rusty early on, with several loose passes. Improved as the game wore on.

Enzo Fernandez 7

Quick pass into Jackson to assist opening goal. Some lovely touches - and one brilliant dummy - in midfield.

Pedro Neto 6

Shifted to preferred right wing following winner at Fulham. One electrifying run from deep in his own half but outshone by Madueke.

Cole Palmer 5

Goal drought stretches now to 17 games and here without so much as a flicker of ending. Oddly hesitant even when on the ball in space.

Noni Madueke 8

Started on the left to accommodate Neto but looked at home, going close early on and terrorising Patterson. Twice denied in the second half by Pickford. Excellent.

Nicolas Jackson 7

First goal in 14 games was taken with the confidence of a player scoring every week. Fine turn and finish. Might have had a second but looked to pull out of challenge with Pickford.

Unlucky to lose his starting place but came on to help see the game out.
