Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall dragged before the hour on a night for forget at St James’ Park
Chelsea crashed out of the Carabao Carabao Cup with a 2-0 defeat at Newcastle.
Here’s how Enzo Maresca’s side rated at St. James’ Park...
Filip Jorgensen 4
Played his team into trouble on more than one occasion and failed to command his area.
Punted Willock’s flick into his own goal, the low point in a dreadful performance which also saw him deliver Veiga a hospital pass in the build-up to the opener.
Tosin Adarabioyo 4
Another who played passes straight into the wall of Newcastle players on the edge of the Toon box. Terrific ball to make Felix chance late on.
Benoit Badiashile 4
Booked and would have seen red had he succeeded in attempt to drag Gordon back after terrible error.
Marc Cucurella 5
Nice pull-back to make Veiga chance early on but could not provide the extra body inverting into midfield that Chelsea needed.
Captained the side but showed no leadership in the face of first-half Toon storm. Appealing for free-kick when could have stopped Tonali assisting the opener. Caught on the ball so often.
Renato Veiga 4
Should have got a cleaner contact on early chance. Weak in build-up to opener.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall 4
A surprise pick on the right of midfield. Steered good early chance straight at Pope, then hardly involved. Dragged before the hour.
Joao Felix 6
The one Chelsea player to emerge from first-half with credit. Carried the ball bravely, but should have pulled one back when chipping wide with 15 minutes to go.
Mykhailo Mudryk 5
Anonymous in the first-half but better after the break. Created one glaring chance for Nkunku.
Christopher Nkunku 5
Got finish all wrong when meeting Mudryk cross. One or two decent bits of hold-up, but Chelsea needed more to stick.
Substitutes
Noni Madueke (Dewsbury-Hall 57’) 5
Brought on to try to spark a comeback but no major impact.
