Chelsea have made a good start to the season, and a good start to the Enzo Maresca era (let’s hope he ends up sticking around long enough for it to become an era, anyway.)
The Blues are in the top 4, which ultimately is the aim for this season. But it’s been a slightly bifurcated campaign so far. In the easier games, the team have looked sensational, tearing apart a number of weaker sides with really effective and efficient counter attacks.
But in the bigger games, things haven’t gone as well. The team lost to Manchester City on the opening day, and have since lost to Liverpool, and drew with a broken Manchester United last weekend.
But the team still have plenty of belief that they can reach the next level soon and start really competing against the top opposition. Defender Levi Colwill spoke to Sky Sports this week, where he made specifically that point.

“I’d say from last year, when he [Maresca] obviously wasn’t here. I think we still had that togetherness, but it’s just needed that extra bit,” Colwill said when asked what had changed between last year and this.
“That’s what he’s gave to us, and gave us that confidence where, going into games, we can beat anyone. That’s what we believe. We really, truly believe that.”
It’s good that the team believe that, because so far there’s no denying we’ve looked a major step below the real title contenders. But it’s still very early days, and there’s another dream chance to prove our quality this weekend when a creaking Arsenal team come to Stamford Bridge.
They’ve got the confidence, now let’s get the results. It’s time to see those words put into action…
