Cole Palmer had two glorious chances to put Chelsea up on the night inside the opening five minutes of action, but the England international failed to convert either amid his recent poor run of form.

It would be Legia that would take a shock lead 10 minutes through captain Tomás Pekhart after he beat Filip Jörgensen from the spot after the former Danish U21 'keeper gave away the penalty.

Legia came inches away from making it 2-0 on the night after 20 minutes when Ryoya Morishita broke into the area only to hash his effort wide of Jörgensen's far post, as Chelsea struggled to come to grips.

Chelsea restored their three-goal cushion in the 33rd minute when Marc Cucurella side-footed home from the edge of the six-yard box to convert Jadon Sancho's cross.

Wojskowi pulled back in front on the night less than 10 minutes after the restart courtesy of a close-range header from Frenchman Steve Kapuadi to regain the slightest hope of taking a massive European scalp.

In the end, it would be aggregate that came to the rescue, with the Blues having done enough to progress to the semi-finals and secure a date against one of Rapid Wien or Djugården pending.
