Chelsea put nine past Feyenoord in pre-season friendly | OneFootball

In a nine-goal spectacle against Feyenoord, Chelsea marked their return to Kingsmeadow in spellbinding fashion. Seven goalscorers got Sonia Bompastor’s reign in London off to a perfect start. A hat-trick from young star Aggie Beever-Jones saw the No.33 continue her outstanding preseason campaign.

How it went

The Blues kicked off their first game back at Kingsmeadow where they left off at the end of last season. Less than two minutes in, Chelsea went two up with stunning strikes from summer signing Sandy Baltimore and Mayra Ramírez. Chelsea remained dominant with the ball throughout the opening half, however Feyenoord refused to let their guard down and put in strong defensive efforts. The chances kept piling up for the Blues as another attempt from Ramirez went just wide of goal.

Obispo was sent off after conceding two yellows — the first for a foul committed and the second for dissent. However, an agreement had been made ahead of the game, with both teams deciding that if a player was sent off, a substitution could be made to allow 11 players to remain on the pitch.

A sly chip from Sjoeke Nüsken went over the head of Oliwia Szymczak, putting Chelsea three goals up. Feyenoord played defensively strong but it was their midfield and attacking play that let them down. Just minutes before the half-time whistle, Niamh Charles went down with a serious looking shoulder injury. At the close of the first half, Wieke Kaptein scored her debut goal, sending Chelsea in with a 4-0 lead.

Second half action

The second half got off to a strong start for both teams. Feyenoord seemed more composed than in the first period, enjoying some decent chances and attempts. Unfortunately, the visitors were unable to get past Zecira Mušović to open their account. After a smooth assist from Lauren James, Chelsea captain Millie Bright scored her first goal for the side since the 2022/23 season to make it 5-0 in the 60th minute.

A possible chance for super-sub Beever-Jones was ruled out as offside just minutes later. However, it then rained goals in London with Beever-Jones and Maika Hamano scoring just two minutes apart. 7-0 to the Blues. Another great run of attack from Beever-Jones sealed her second goal of the match and extended Chelsea’s lead to eight goals.

Feyenoord went on the counter-attack making a strong run down the line but were stopped by the Chelsea defence. Beever-Jones’ hat-trick came in the 91st minute, ending a successful pre-season game for the hosts.

Player of the Match

Kaptein signed for Chelsea in last summer’s transfer window, spending last season on loan at FC Twente. The Chelsea midfielder made her debut appearance today at Kingsmeadow and scored her debut goal. Within the pre-season with Chelsea, Kaptein has played in all games making a positive impact on the pitch. The No.18 continued her great pre-season run during this friendly against Feyenoord. Kaptein was undoubtedly the first half hero for the Blues with continuous runs up and down the pitch.
