The French team are reportedly paying around £1.7million for the 20-year-old, who made just one appearance for the west Londoners since arriving on a free transfer last summer.

A buy-back clause has been inserted into the deal for Moreira in what has been described as a workaround for the spate of transactions between the BlueCo sister clubs.

Strasbourg can only loan three players at any one time from Chelsea and signed both Caleb Wiley and Andrey Santos on temporary deals earlier in the summer.

The final spot could go to Djordje Petrovic, who has been named as a possible candidate to spend time with the Ligue 1 club after falling out of favour with Enzo Maresca.

Moreira could therefore return to Stamford Bridge later in his career, although he has done little to suggest he will make the grade after an underwhelming loan spell at Lyon last season.

Chelsea are said to be looking for new clubs for a number of players before the transfer deadline. Lesley Ugochukwu is set to join Southampton with Angelo Gabriel, Leo Castledine, Trevoh Chalobah and Romelu Lukaku among those touted for moves.
