Chelsea have completed the signing of youngster Deivid Washington from Santos for around £12 million on a seven-year deal with the option of another year.
Washington joins Chelsea as part of their drive to recruit top talents from around the globe, managing their development and helping them fulfil their potential.
He will likely head out on loan for the season with a move to Chelsea’s sister club, RC Strasbourg, on the cards,
Washington will reunite with former Santos teammate and fellow new signing Angelo Gabriel in France.
He is not ready for first-team action at Chelsea despite the Blues needing a centre-forward to compete with Nicolas Jackson.
The forwrad will hope to gain vital experience on loan before rejoining the club to help the first team.
Chelsea still need additions to their squad before the transfer window closes in just over one week.
They need competition for Jackson but have not settled on a target. The Blues eyed a move for Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun, but he is close to joining AS Monaco.
They also considered an exchange deal involving Romelu Lukaku and Dusan Vlahovic but were not so keen on the Serbian.
There have been rumours that the Blues are considering keeping Lukaku around to provide cover for Jackson, but it is unclear if the Belgian is open to staying at the club.
Another option for Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino is Armando Broja, who only joined first-team training recently after returning from a long-term injury.
Pochettino said he wants to give the Albanian striker a chance and doesn’t want to block his path.
