Chelsea host Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup semi-finals on Tuesday night looking to progress into next month’s final at Wembley.
Mauricio Pochettino‘s side return to Stamford Bridge for the second leg hoping to overturn a one goal deficit after a narrow 1-0 defeat at the Riverside Stadium earlier this month.
Hayden Hackney has put Boro in the driving seat, however Chelsea remain the firm favourites to book their spot in the final where they would face either Liverpool or Fulham.
Pochettino is confident Chelsea can reach their first final under his management, but insists Middlesbrough are a ‘very good team’ and will be a tough opponent to beat.
“It is a passport to go to the final, to visit Wembley. It’s a really important game for us. We need to show that it’s really important for the club, for us, for everyone. We want to be in the final but first of all we need to beat Middlesbrough, a very good team that in the first-leg we cannot beat.
“It’s going to be tough like the first half of the leg. We are confident we can have a very good game in front of our fans at Stamford Bridge. We need to take advantage of playing at Stamford Bridge and the energy from our fans.”
Christopher Nkunku will miss the cup tie through a minor hip injury and Malo Gusto remains unavailable.
