Chelsea have reportedly set an asking price of £29 million for wantaway defender Renato Veiga.
The Portugal international only joined the Blues last summer, moving from Swiss outfit FC Basel for £12 million, but has only made start in the Premier League this season.
The 21-year-old’s preferred position is centre-back, but has mostly been deployed as a left-back or defensive midfielder on the few occasions he has been called upon by manager Enzo Maresca.
That has opened the possibility of a move to Juventus, who are looking to sign a central defender after Gleison Bremer was sidelined with an ACL tear.
Chelsea have held ‘talks’ with Juve about a deal for Veiga, but want around a transfer fee of around £29m, according to The Times, which would see the west London club more than double their money.
The Athletic, meanwhile, claim that Chelsea are willing to loan the player out “if playing and economic conditions are met”. Marseille and Borussia Dortmund are said to be interested in a deal.
Veiga was left out of the matchday squad for Monday’s 3-1 win over Wolves in the Premier League, despite the fact Chelsea are missing a number of first-team defenders, such as Benoit Badiashile, Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana, through injury.
Asked if he was omitted due to the transfer interest in the player, Maresca responded: No, no, no. It’s because of a technical decision.
“We prefer, for instance, Ty [Tyrique George] or Jadon [Sancho] as a winger on the bench if we need to change both and then we changed both. The reason why was just for that.
