Chelsea 'willing' to make bid for Real Madrid teenager - major stumbling block revealed | OneFootball

The January transfer window is approaching and Chelsea are continuing to do their due diligence over potential targets.

One position Chelsea have signed many players in over the last few transfer windows is between the sticks. Currently, Chelsea have Robert Sanchez, Filip Jorgensen, Lucas Bergström and Marcus Bettinelli in and around their first-team.

Out on loan, Djordje Petrovic is at RC Strasbourg, while Mike Penders will join from KRC Genk next summer. Gabriel Slonina, who arrived from Chicago Fire in the 2022-23 season, is playing his football at League One side Barnsley this term.

Enzo Maresca has been tasked with managing the goalkeeper situation, with Sanchez the current Premier League number one and Jorgensen preferred in the cup competitions.

Sanchez's performances remain under the microscope, but Chelsea still have full faith in the 27-year-old, and recognise their strong future with the likes of Jorgensen and Penders on their books.

Despite an array of goalkeepers on the books, as well as many in their academy ranks, Chelsea are keeping an eye on another shot-stopper, this time a teenager.

As reported by Relevo, Chelsea are one of the most insistent and willing to make an offer for Real Madrid's Fran González.

The 19-year-old, who is contracted until June 2026, currently plays for Madrid's Castilla side.

Madrid value González highly, with it suggested that they are 'not short on praise and dare to venture that he is the youth player with the most chances of establishing himself in the first team' at the Bernabeu.

His competition is fierce. Thibaut Courtois, who is one of the best goalkeepers in the world currently, is one of the first names on the teamsheet under Carlo Ancelotti, with Andriy Lunin as back up.

Despite Chelsea showing strong interest, González is likely to stay put in Spain due to wanting to 'fulfil his dream' of playing for the first-team.

With interest increasing, Madrid have also not ruled out extending González's contract in order to scare off potential suitors to tie his long-term future down at the Bernabeu.
