With a win against Everton today, Chelsea can go top. Even if it’s just for a few hours before a Liverpool win over Spurs, it’s a huge achievement considering it’s late December. Even the most optimistic Chelsea fan wouldn’t have dared hope we’d be in such a strong position at this stage, given the chaos of the last few years.
The Blues are looking strong, their opposition flawed, and week by week the idea of a title challenge is becoming more realistic. More than the season still remains, but the easy fixtures Enzo Maresca’s team have leading up to the end of January mean there’s a great chance they’re still in the mix come the final third of the campaign.

Those easy games need the team to keep performing at their best though, which is the message manager Enzo Maresca has been trying to get across, as Pedro Neto revealed in a chat with the club’s official website today:
“He asks for the consistency of the hard work and he is really demanding. Of course that comes from the coach, but the players as well.
“We have to take responsibility ourselves to work hard and keep our level high every day, because we have to improve as individuals and that is what we are doing at the moment. I work for myself, I work to improve every day, and I compete against myself every day. We have a lot of quality in the team and we have to continue in the way that we are doing. That’s what we are doing and we have to keep this level of consistency.”
Neto returns to action today after missing our last Premier League game suspended.
