The 27-year-old was named alongside Chelsea teammate Ann-Katrin Berger on the German bench but the midfielder came on and scored a superb long range goal as Martina Voss-Tecklenburg’s side made it two wins from two in FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia New Zealand 2023 qualifying.
Germany went into the match fresh from a 7-0 victory over Bulgaria last week but they were left stunned after three minutes against Serbia when forward Nina Matejić broke the deadlock.
Serbia went on to defend their lead resolutely but their resistance was finally broken by Lea Schüller four minutes after half-time.
Schüller then added three further goals to her tally in the 28 minutes which followed as Germany put any fears of dropped points well and truly to bed before substitute Leupolz got in on the act 11 minutes from time. The midfielder hit the ball perfectly from 20 yards and her shot sailed into the top corner of the Serbian net to cap-off a 5-1 victory for her side.
Germany will play Isreal in back-to-back fixtures next month before facing tougher assignments against Turkey and Portugal in November.
