Chelsea could only manage a 2-2 draw at home to Bournemouth last night in the Premier League after a very frustrating second half.
The first half, Chelsea were superb. They were all over Bournemouth really in terms of creating chances and getting shots in on goal. But the only issue was that they did not convert their chances and only went in 1-0 up at half time when really, they should have gone in 3-0 up. This was something that truly frustrated Enzo Maresca and is something that he mentioned after the game, clearly annoyed.
But in the second half it was a different story. Borunemouth improved their game immensely after clearly having some stern words said to them at half time. And to add to that, Chelsea completely switched off and a number of players disappeared.
But according to the stats and the data at least, five of them actually got some pretty decent ratings, although the eye test debates some of these.
As you can see above, according to the data from FotMob, Chelsea’s top five players were Enzo Fernandez, Nicolas Jackson, Cole Palmer, Reece James, and Levi Colwill.
I think Fernandez deservedly sits at the top of this, he was great. Palmer scored a great goal and was fantastic for the first 25 minutes but then disappeared a bit for the rest of the game. Jackson was world class on Palmer’s goal and also on a chance where he hit the post, but he also missed two huge chances to put Chelsea 3-0 up at half time. Reece James was decent when he came on and his free kick was superb.
So some of these don’t tell the entire picture in my view and why it’s important to also add in the eye test as well as stats.
