Chivas are waiting to find out if attacker Eduardo ‘La Chofis’ López has contracted Covid-19.
The 25-year-old displayed symptoms of the virus prior to Saturday’s 3-1 Copa por México win over Mazatlán FC, and was promptly sent home to rest.
Speaking after the game, manager Luis Fernando Tena explained: “Eduardo López had a Covid-19 test on Wednesday because his girlfriend had had some symptoms and it came out negative.
“And, today, when he got here he also felt bad. He had a little temperature and he felt without strength, so we didn’t want to risk it and returned him to his house.”
Tena added that López would be tested for Covid-19 and the Flock expected those results to come back on Sunday.
Chivas made light of the enforced absence of their #10, with a first-half goal from Jesús Angulo and a second-half brace from José Juan Macías seeing them safely through to the semi-finals of the tournament.
The game was also noteworthy as it saw Liga MX newboys Mazatlán FC score their first-ever goal.
Venezuela international Fernando Aristeguieta will have his name etched in the record books, but his 81st-minute effort was little more than a consolation in the context of the result.
