In front of a packed Akron Stadium that played its role as player number 12, Guadalajara tried but failed to capitalize on the chances it generated and drew goalless in El Clásico de México in the first leg of the Semifinals of the Clausura 2024.
In terms of initiative and clear chances at goal, the statistics were all for Rebaño Sagrado, who had possession of the ball and held the Águilas at bay, as well as being in command of Malagón's goal. Only the Azulcrema's defensive work was able to prevent Chivas from taking the advantage on aggregate in the first leg.
The second leg will be played in the Red-and-White Capital, where we are sure that the ChivaHermanos will once again paint the Azteca Stadium red and white. The starting whistle will blow on Saturday, May 18, at 8 PM.
Dangerous Chances-Pável Pérez came up just short of the first goal! At 21', Guadalajara broke down the right, which left the lane open for 'Chata', who shot one-on-one against Malagón, just wide of the opponent's left post.-Now it was Ricardo Marín who shot like an arrow towards the Azulcrema goal with incredible service from 'Tala', which only Lichnovsky's last-ditch closing and Malagón's subsequent block on the rebound prevented the Red-and-White goal.-A great offensive series by Chivas at the start of the second half! The rojiblancos bombarded the capital area with a couple of crosses at 53', which made maximum demands on the rival defense. A rebound favored 'Pocho' Guzmán, who shot from half distance to force the goalkeeper's shot; in the subsequent action, it was Pável who shot low inside the area in front of Malagón's save.-'Piojo' Alvarado appeared like a train on the left side of the box to shoot at the American goal, where the goalkeeper had to hold on at the near post to send a corner kick.-'CHICHARITO' ALMOST SCORED! 'Nene' Beltrán took the ball from the left, where he saw the movement of Javier Hernández in the heart of the area, and without hesitation sent the cross, which was millimeters away from connecting with the head of the Red and White attacker.
