Javier López’s refusal to join Pachuca is reportedly causing a headache for Chivas as they look to add to their attacking options.
López, who goes by the nickname ‘Chofis’, has just concluded an 18-month loan with Major League Soccer side San José Earthquakes.
Although the 27-year-old impressed north of the border, scoring 13 goals in 37 appearances, Chivas are adamant there is no future for him at the club.
This has been the case since late 2020 when López was one of three other players present at a party that led to an allegation of sexual assault against Dieter Villalpando.
Despite López’s wish to fight for a place in Ricardo Cadena’s side, the Flock’s hierarchy are standing firm.
They wanted him to agree to join Pachuca so that they could bring in Santiago Ormeño from León.
The 28-year-old, who was born in Mexico but represents Peru at international level, has passed his medical and is waiting to complete the formalities.
Los Rojiblancos are the only Liga MX side yet to score after the first two rounds of Apertura fixtures.
Chivas despoerately need attacking reinforcements, but it appears the López stand-off will need to be resolved before they can add to their ranks.
