Celtic suffered their first defeat in the Scottish Premiership at Parkhead this season after losing 3-2 against Rangers on Sunday in the Old Firm derby clash.
The Bhoys are leading the table by 13 points with eight games left to be played, and they are clear favourites to lift the Premiership trophy once again.
However, they’ve looked shaky at the back against good teams and especially against Rangers, and the Hoops could have conceded more than four or five goals.
After going 2-0 down at the break, Celtic staged a revival with goals coming from Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate. In the end, Hamza Igamane scored the winner for the visitors.
Celtic not only lacked intensity in the first half but also made several individual errors that we usually do not associate with them.
In the absence of Callum McGregor, they lacked leadership and dynamism in the middle of the park, with Arne Engels failing to fill his role efficiently.
Chris Sutton was impressed by the performance of Celtic defender Maik Nawrocki and hailed him as “fantastic” after the game.
The Sky Sports pundit said: “In the first half they never found their rhythm in the middle of the park. I have got to say (Maik) Nawrocki, coming in I thought he had a fantastic game.”
The 24-year-old defender made seven clearances, one tackle, and four interceptions and won seven duels during the game. He only lost possession four times, registered one shot on target, and managed 93% passing accuracy.
The popular pundit, however, was more critical of other Bhoys players. He described Kasper Schmeichel’s blunder as “scandalous” and also criticised Cameron Carter-Vickers for his role in the build-up to Rangers’ third goal.
Brendan Rodgers will be gutted to lose against Rangers at Celtic Park, and while they are almost certain to lift the SPFL trophy, two defeats against their arch-rivals will hurt them.
