Belgian giants Anderlecht have checked up on one of Middlesbrough stars but feel a move for him is ‘too expensive’.

Middlesbrough finished outside the playoff spots in the Championship last term and Michael Carrick will be bidding for an improvement next term.

Boro though were asked about the availability of defender Rav van den Berg by Belgian side Anderlecht.

Anderlecht got in touch to check about what would be required to take the Dutch defender to Belgium, according to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri.

What Anderlecht were told though made them deem Van den Berg ‘too expensive’ and they will not proceed with a swoop.

Van den Berg, 20, still has another three years left to run on his contract at the Riverside.

He made 34 appearances in the Championship for Boro over the course of last term and was booked just twice.
