Lazio have started posting pictures of Arsenal’s Nuno Tavares in training with their team despite neither club confirming the transfer.

In a strange twist on what you usually expect from a footballer’s transfer, Lazio have started to post on social media about new signing Nuno Tavares before officially confirming that they’ve signed him.

On Sunday afternoon, Lazio confirmed that Tavares had arrived at their training camp, and on Monday morning they shared a few pictures of the player training in their shirt on Twitter.

Yet neither Arsenal nor Lazio have announced the transfer. Officially, Tavares is still an Arsenal player just training with another club.

When it’s eventually confirmed, Tavares will be joining Lazio on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy next summer. The contracts have reportedly already been signed.

After Tavares’ year-long loan, the mandatory purchase option will see him move onto a contract with the Serie A club lasting until June 2029.

Fabrizio Romano previously reported that the purchase clause fee has been set at €9m (£7.6m), with Dharmesh Sheth writing for Sky Sports that the sell-on clause in the deal is believed to be 20% of a future sale.

Tavares made 12 appearances for Forest over the course of the 2023/24 season, with eight in the Premier League and four in the FA Cup.

He’ll hope his eventual permanent transfer will give him some more regularity in the starting lineup for Lazio.
