Cole Palmer is a special talent. We weren’t in need of a reminder but Palmer provided one anyway with a starring performance in Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday.
Palmer created one and scored another, sealing the win with a spectacular late third. Afforded far too much room on the edge of the area, Palmer placed his finish perfectly into the top corner to seal a fine afternoon’s work for Enzo Maresca’s side at Stamford Bridge.
The 22-year-old took his tally to the season to eight goals and six assists in the Premier League this season, while his 47 goal involvements since his Chelsea debut is the most of any player in the division.
Palmer’s latest goal also saw him become the second-fastest Chelsea player to reach 30 goals in the Premier League for the club, achieving the feat in just 46 games. Only Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink (41) reached the milestone faster, with Palmer eclipsing players including Diego Costa (48) and Didier Drogba (67).
On the win over Aston Villa, Palmer told Sky Sports: “Aston Villa are a good team so to win and go higher up the table is good.
“I think if I go out and enjoy my football, the goals and assists will come. It’s all down to the manager, the desire that he puts into the sessions and what the players give to him.
“If we keep winning, I’m sure we’ll be near the top four. We’re just trying to keep going and win plenty of games.”
