The Colorado Rapids lockdown one of their best homegrown talents for the foreseeable future. Cole Bassett has signed a contract extension with Colorado through the 2027 MLS season, occupying a U22 Initiative spot on the roster. The 22 year old midfielder rejoined the Colorado Rapids in 2023 after two loan spells in Europe to Feyenoord and Fortuna Sittard. In 122 career games between; Colorado Rapids, Fortuna Sittard, Feyenoord, and the Colorado Springs Switchbacks, Bassett has 20 career goals with 11 career assists. In his career he has also earned a USMNT cap during an International Friendly against Bosnia where he was able to score in his 12 minutes of action.
It is assumed that Bassett will be the starting attacking midfielder for the Colorado Rapids next season under new manager Chris Armas. With additional signings this off-season of Omir Fernandez, Zack Steffen, and Djordje Mihailovic… Bassett seems like he can be one of the new leaders on this group that are looking to push the Colorado Rapids into a new era. Last season for a bad Rapids side, Bassett had 6 goals and 1 assist in roughly 2,000 minutes. I am expecting to see those numbers increase during his 2024 campaign.
