Wilfried Nancy is busy preparing Columbus Crew for the Concacaf final, set to take place later this weekend, however, as he tells L’Équipe, he harbours ambitions of one day making a return to France and managing a club.

Born in Le Havre, Nancy had a short playing career before heading over to North America, where he has already found considerable success in his early years of coaching. Last year, he led Columbus Crew to glory in the MLS, beating holders LAFC in the final 2-1.

Should Columbus Crew beat CF Pachuca in the Concacaf final this weekend, they would become just the fourth MLS team to win the Cup. Naturally, Nancy’s exploits are garnering attention, and as he has told L’Équipe, clubs back in Europe have already been in contact.

“I have already had contacts in France and in Europe,” Nancy told L’Équipe, adding that he “feels good” at Columbus Crew. In the long term, however, he way look for a return to his native France. “It isn’t my dream [to leave Columbus Crew]. I am not a ‘careerist’ but I want to come back, one day,” he said. A win this weekend would certainly do a lot to enhance his reputation, not only in the USA but abroad too.
