According to The Northern Echo, the Edinburgh outfit are hoping that qualification for European football can convince the Australian to push for a move in the upcoming transfer window.

The 21-year-old has spent this season on loan in the Premiership, where he has made 31 appearances, contributing three goals and six assists.

Hibs are currently third in the table with three games to go, which would earn them a place in the qualifying stages for the Europa League next season.

Triantis initially joined Hibs on loan in the 2024 January window, and made his return in the summer after playing just once for Sunderland in the Championship to start the campaign.

The Scottish side are now hoping to seal a permanent move for the player after his strong performances while on loan.

Manager David Gray has outlined his desire to see Triantis stay at Hibs longer-term, but admitted it will be up to Sunderland to decide the player’s future.

He believes qualification for European football could help convince the Australian to push for a move, suggesting talks will be held soon.

“He’s contracted to Sunderland, isn't he, so we'll wait and see exactly what happens there,” said Gray, via The Northern Echo.

“But I think he's done really well.

“He's certainly benefited from coming here in terms of what he's done for his career.

“And there'll be a conversation to be had, but it'll ultimately be up to his parent club, and also whatever he wants to do.

“But it’s certainly not a bad place for him to come and play.

“And the potential of European football next year is something else that he can add to his CV if he comes and wants to do that.”

Triantis deal could depend on Sunderland’s promotion push

If Sunderland are unable to secure promotion, then Hibs’ chances of a deal will likely decrease significantly.

There’s a chance that the Black Cats will lose a number of key players this summer should they remain in the Championship, meaning room could open up in Régis Le Bris’ side for someone like Triantis.

The 21-year-old arrived at the club as a defender, but has proven is quite comfortable playing in midfield as well, which is the kind of versatility that might garner attention at the Stadium of Light.

However, if the Wearside outfit are promoted, then there might not be a pathway into Le Bris’ plans, and thus they could be more open to a deal.
