After having to do without keeper Kevin Trapp on short notice against Ajax Amsterdam on Thursday evening, Eintracht Frankfurt will also be without their regular #1 in the Bundesliga this weekend. SGE head coach Dino Toppmöller confirmed that a shin injury will keep Trapp out of action through Sunday

This translates to an eighth start this year across all competitions for young Brazilian prospect Kaua Santos. The 21-year-old has featured in Toppmöller’s XI four times in the league and now thrice in the Europa League.

Santos actually initially looked very good in his three league starts near the beginning of the campaign. A marvelous performance against Besiktas in the second Europa League round even sparked discussion that Kaua Santos might replace Trapp on a permanent basis.

Such talk was shelved since Kaua Santos’ last league out Mainz on matchday 15. Several mistakes in a 1-3 loss to Mainz on the final Bundesliga fixture date of the 2024 calendar year left him with failing marks in all German press sources.

An overall stellar performance in the Europa League victory (four saves, 50 touches, 80 percent balls defended) will surely leave the SGE back up full of confidence and ready to keep rolluing.
