Joe Edwards has been out of action for Plymouth Argyle since October
Miron Muslic has outlined a potential return timeline to the Plymouth Argyle squad for Joe Edwards.
The 34-year-old has been out of the team since 26 October, last playing 49 minutes in the team’s 3-3 draw against Preston North End.
The defender’s absence has been a big blow for the Pilgrims this season, with the team fighting against relegation back to League One.
A hamstring issue has seen Edwards go nearly four months without featuring for Plymouth, but he could soon be in line for a return to the side.
Muslic has claimed that the upcoming clash against Hull City at the start of March could be Edwards’ first game back in the squad.
The Plymouth boss believes that the club captain needs a good week with the team before going back into the squad, which they won’t get until the start of next month.
"What he needs right now is a full week with us,” said Muslic, via Plymouth Live.
“Due to the heavy schedule, we have had recovery days and match day minus one days so we could not create the load he needed to adapt.
"He's very close.
“Hull City, that's the game where Joe will return into the squad because there he has a clean preparation towards this.
“That's our plan."
Plymouth moved up to 22nd in the Championship table on Saturday with a 1-1 draw against relegation rivals Cardiff City at home.
The Pilgrims have earned nine points from their last six games, propelling them above Luton Town and Derby County.
However, the gap to safety is still three points, with 12 games remaining and the club have failed to win any of their last three fixtures.
Up next for Muslic’s side is an FA Cup fifth round clash against Manchester City on 1 March.
Edwards is a valuable presence in the Plymouth team, and his return will be a welcome boost to their survival hopes.
He has yet to play since Muslic arrived as manager, but his experience will be great to have back in the side.
The upcoming clash against Hull will be huge given there are only three points between the teams as of writing, albeit the Tigers have played one game fewer.
If Plymouth are going to survive then having Edwards back will be key, and that might just start with that upcoming game against Hull.
