There have already been two shocks in the Coppa Italia today, as Parma were knocked out by Serie B side Palermo and Venezia fell 3-1 to Brescia.
The First Round continues this evening with another two fixtures and potential slip-ups, as Sampdoria are up against newly-promoted Como and Torino host Cosenza.
There were surprises this afternoon, as two more Serie A teams were knocked out by those from the lower rungs, after Verona’s exit to Cesena yesterday.
Playing at the Stadio Tardini, Parma capitulated 1-0 to Serie B outfit Palermo and paid a heavy price for Romania international Dennis Man seeing his penalty parried by Gomis.
Instead, Roberto Insigne sealed victory for the Sicilians after a corner kick.
Palermo will go through to face Napoli in the next phase of the tournament.
Venezia are also out at the first hurdle, suffering a surprisingly heavy defeat 3-1 in Brescia.
Gennaro Borrelli had opened the scoring, followed by a Giacomo Olzer brace after the break.
When Jay Idzes found the net in the final minute with a header, it was too late to turn it around for the Lagunari.
Brescia will play Monza in the Second Round.
