As reported by Foot Mercato and RMC Sport, Olympique de Marseille are accelerating discussions to sign Stade Rennais’ Adrien Truffert (22), which could spell the end of Renan Lodi’s (25) short stay at the club.
Lodi only joined Marseille in the summer from Atletico Madrid, signing a five-year deal with Les Phocéens. It had been made clear that OM were looking to strengthen at left-back, however, the plan was reportedly to add depth and provide competition, not replace the Brazilian international, who has been a regular since joining. Marseille’s pursuit of Hellas Verona’s Josh Doig was in line with this plan.
However, Lodi, a €13m signing, could’ve set for a premature departure, according to L’Équipe. The publication reports that an “interesting” offer has been received and the club will therefore not stand in the way of Lodi leaving. Whilst L’Équipe have not revealed the identity of the purchasing club in question, Foot Mercato reported earlier this week that Brentford were keen to recruit the player.
Should Marseille’s pursuit of Truffert, a France international, prove successful, Lodi could therefore leave, and perhaps to Brentford. Truffert does not represent a back-up option, with Marseille seemingly now looking to replace Lodi. OM’s push to sign Truffert does not put an end to the deal to sign Scottish defender Doig from Hellas Verona.
