Could Napoli Receive Shock Points Deduction In Serie A Title Race Vs Inter Milan? Capital Gains Case Rumbles On

Napoli are still at risk of a shock points deduction in the Serie A title race with Inter Milan due to a capital gains investigation.
Today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, note that if the case resolves by the end of June, it could play a role in the Serie A table for this season.
Italian FA Prosecutors are continuing to look into Napoli’s transfer dealings.
And Tuttosport report that the FA could request the overturning of a trial from three years ago.
That concerns some alleged capital gains manipulation by Napoli in player sales and signings.
Particularly at issue are the dual transfers of Amadou Diawara and Kostas Manolas with Roma.
But above all, there is the Victor Osimhen signing.
Napoli paid a huge fee to sign the Nigerian from Lille. However, going the other way were goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis and a slew of less well-known players, valued at €20 million.

If the Italian FA find new evidence, they could reopen the trial against Napoli.
Then, if the Partenopei were to be found guilty, there would be a couple possibilities.
One would be a fine. But alternatively, there could be a more serious sporting punishment.
There would be precedent for the latter option. Juventus received a points deduction during the 2022-23 season, after having been found guilty of capital gains fraud.
There is a substantial difference here, though. In the Bianconeri’s case, prosecutors demonstrated an ongoing system of fraudulent transfer dealings.
That is not the case with Napoli, or at least not to anywhere near the same extent.
However, the Osimhen transfer remains potentially problematic on its own. Therefore, nothing is truly off the table.
As Tuttosport note, if Napoli were to receive a points deduction, then the timing of the verdict would be key.
If the verdict were to arrive before the end of June, the points deduction would apply to this season.
And that could have grave ramifications. Napoli are currently three points behind defending Champions Inter Milan at the summit of the league table.
