Reports are suggesting Leeds United could bid for Coventry City captain, Ben Sheaf.

Ben Sheaf could be the subject of a bid from Leeds United this January, with Coventry City said to be needing to "keep on track with financial requirements" when it comes to player sales.

Leeds are pursuing automatic promotion under Daniel Farke in the Championship again and top the table in the early weeks of 2025.

Attention right now is on the January transfer window, as Leeds aim to fine-tune their squad to get it over the line.

An exclusive report from Leeds United News has claimed that Leeds are "ready to bid" for Coventry's Sheaf, who has been ever-present under Frank Lampard since he was appointed as Mark Robins' successor at the CBS Arena.

They claim"Coventry do have to keep on track with financial requirements and may have to consider a substantial bid for a star name" this January.

Sources, though, have indicated to Football League World that Sheaf is not a target for Leeds, who have ample depth in central midfield with Ethan Ampadu, Joe Rothwell, Ao Tanaka, Ilia Gruev and Josuha Guilavogui.

Sheaf should be retained by Coventry at all costs

Lampard has inherited a very good squad at Coventry that was built by Robins and set-up for a play-off push.

There's obviously an argument that it could have been even better, with Coventry losing the likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Gus Hamer and Callum O'Hare in recent transfer windows.

The former two left for significant money, which you'd hope would ease the pressure on selling someone like Sheaf this winter.

The 26-year-old made 68 appearances across the last two Championship seasons, and was just as crucial as anyone else to Robins' success, so interest in the midfielder is sure to be bubbling away under the surface, even if it won't be Leeds making their move.

Sheaf has played 18 times this campaign, too, and has started and served as Lampard's captain in every fixture since his appointment.

Retention is absolutely key this winter for Coventry and, if he is to be moved on, it needs to be for much more than the £8m noted here.
