Two of the most recognisable names in the recent history of La Liga giants Real Madrid have on Thursday sent messages of appreciation the way of Marcelo.
This, of course, comes after the Brazilian called time on his legendary career.
Marcelo announced earlier today that he has come to the decision to lower the curtain on a playing stint which lasted a full 20 years.
The left-back, now 36, most recently lined out for Fluminense, after returning to his boyhood club back in 2023.
Marcelo will always be best remembered, though, for his time in the colours of the aforementioned Real Madrid.
The defender lined out for Los Blancos from 2007 to 2022, racking up five Champions League titles, six La Liga crowns and much, much more during his time in Spain’s capital.
And, as alluded to above, in the aftermath of his retirement announcement, two of those to have shared a close bond with Marcelo at Real have sent heartfelt messages to the South American.
First, long-time defensive partner Sergio Ramos took to Instagram, to post the following:
And next was five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo, with whom Marcelo is known to maintain a close friendship:
