The president of Spain's Football Council, the CSD, has confirmed a decision on Dani Olmo's Barcelona registration will be made in the "next few days".

Olmo is currently playing on an emergency licence granted after La Liga rejected Barcelona's attempts to extend his initial temporary agreement - awarded until December 31, 2024 in the aftermath of Andreas Christensen's serious injury - into the second half of the season.

Barcelona argued that they had submitted the necessary documents in time to extend Olmo's licence, but La Liga claimed otherwise and, with players unable to be re-registered in the same season, Olmo was blocked from playing for the club.

What followed was a tense legal battle which saw Barcelona appeal directly to the government, whose sporting branch ultimately decided Olmo could play while a final verdict was debated.

According to CSD president Jose Manuel Rodriguez Uribes, a final decision will be reached "in the next days". The deadline for a decision is April 7.

While several clubs have voiced disappointment towards the decision to allow Olmo, who has seven goals and five assists in all competitions, to continue representing Barcelona, it was recently claimed that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez had actually been integral to getting Olmo's licence temporarily extended.

"Football is sometimes very funny, they bring up curious things," Uribes continued. "Real Madrid seems, according to some reports, to be delighted with Dani Olmo.

"This is the world upside down, but, well, what Real Madrid did was respect the CSD's decision and I am very grateful for that. By the way, not only Real Madrid, but 80% or 90% of the clubs understood it."
