Rasmus Kristensen has enjoyed the international break more than any other Leeds United player in March.

The 27-year-old is on the verge of becoming an ex-Whites player, but technically, Leeds still own him.

He joined German side Eintracht Frankfurt on loan from Elland Road, and has stated his desire to stay with Robin Koch’s side beyond his loan spell.

According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, Kristensen’s move to Frankfurt is as good as confirmed. He is set to complete a permanent move from Leeds.

After struggling to make an impact at Leeds, a return to the club was never his option. Frankfurt had an option to buy for £8-10m, but now, after intense negotiation, a deal has been agreed upon at £4m only.

He has become a key player for Frankfurt, and Leeds have agreed that it is best for both parties for him to join them permanently.

What the Danish press said about the Leeds defender

Denmark defeated Portugal in the first leg 1-0. However, in the return leg in Lisbon, the Danish side were thoroughly outplayed as they lost 5-2.

The quarter-final had ended 3-3 on aggregate after 90 minutes, but the Portuguese scored two more goals in extra time to secure a 5-3 aggregate win.

Kristensen has become a key player for his country and scored his first goal for Denmark last night.

Danish newspaper BT gave him 4/6 stars, and hailed him as “excellent”. They noted that he tamed Rafael Leao like a “lion in a circus”.

They wrote: “Excellent defensive game, where he really holds a high international standard.

“Last night he had even more control over the muscle bundle from Milan Rafael Leão, who was tamed like a lion in a circus.

“And then we finally got to see the goal scoring ability he brings to the Bundesliga, on the national team. That right-back now belongs to Nissen!”

International round-up for Leeds players

Apart from Kristensen, who is now 99% a Frankfurt player, other Leeds players impressed during the international break.

Dan James scored for Wales against Kazakhstan in the World Cup qualifying game. Along with Tottenham’s Ben Davies, he was one of the top performers for Wales.

Leeds fans, however, will be worried about the injury picked up by Wilfried Gnonto while playing for Italy. He is now returning to Elland Road for further examination.
