Carlo Ancelotti has become the main figure under scrutiny at Real Madrid this season. In December, after winning the FIFA Intercontinental Cup, he surpassed Miguel Munoz to become the manager with the most titles in the club’s history, with a total of 15 trophies.

However, poor results against major opponents, particularly the elimination against Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League and three defeats against Barcelona one each in La Liga, Spanish Super Cup final and the Copa del Rey final yesterday, have sealed his fate.

With Brazil pushing to appoint him as the new national team manager, reports emerged earlier today that the Italian manager could leave as early as next week.

Ancelotti to leave after La Liga ends

However, now, according to journalist Miguel Angel Diaz of COPE, Real Madrid’s plan for Ancelotti is for him to finish the La Liga season, with five matches remaining, before parting ways with him.

It would mean that the 65-year-old will not lead the team at the FIFA Club World Cup.

So, if the aforementioned report is to go by, Ancelotti has five more matches left as the manager of Real Madrid in which he will hope to lead the team to La Liga title success.

The Merengues play Celta Vigo next weekend at home, before travelling to Barcelona for the Clasico on 11 May.

Mallorca (home) and Sevilla (away) come next before Real Madrid play Real Sociedad at the Santiago Bernabeu in their final match of the season on the weekend of 25/26 May. As things stand, that will be Ancelotti’s last game in charge.

Real Madrid intend to see off Ancelotti with a proper farewell in a way befitting his status as a club legend, recognising that his departure in 2015 was not handled in the best manner.

Once that is done, the Merengues will decide whether to appoint an interim manager for the Club World Cup or hand the reins to the new head coach, possibly Xabi Alonso, starting from 26 May.
