David Ornstein names surprise player who’s been a “consideration for some time” at Chelsea | OneFootball

Strasbourg striker Emmanuel Emegha has been under consideration at Chelsea for some time according to David Ornstein.

The Blues are once again set for a busy summer, and could look to fund their business by selling as many as seven or eight players.

Chelsea face a critical window with the club looking to sign a striker, centre back and right footed attacker to improve Enzo Maresca’s squad.

Emegha under consideration at Chelsea

A striker is the main priority this summer and the Blues have paid the price for failing to sign an alternative to Nicolas Jackson both last summer and in January.

Chelsea have been most strongly linked with Ipswich’s Liam Delap, who’s available for £30m and has scored 12 league goals this season.

However, competition is fierce for the 22-year-old and Ornstein has reported there’s another name under consideration at Chelsea.

“Emmanuel Emegha has definitely been a consideration for some time,” he told The Athletic.

“As have others, like Liam Delap and Benjamin Šeško.”

Chelsea are said to be impressed with Emegha, who’s scored 14 goals in Ligue 1 this season, with Strasbourg in with a chance of qualifying for the Champions League.

Strasbourg signed Emegha from Austrian side Sturm Graz for just £12m in the summer of 2023, whilst he’s impressed for the Dutch under-21s with three goals in nine caps.

Sesko and Ekitike alternative targets

Chelsea are said to have a number of names on their shortlist and it’s vital they make the right decision this summer.

If they fail to land Delap, Emegha is clearly an option, but the Blues also have interest in Bundesliga duo Benjamin Sesko and Hugo Ekitike.

Sesko has a release clause of around €80m, whilst Frankfurt are said to want as much as €100m for Ekitike, making them two of the more expensive options.

The most important thing is the Blues bring someone in who can make an impact and start scoring goals straight away, with the dream of course a Victor Osimhen or Viktor Gyokeres.
