McTominay and De Gea have been among the best Serie A players this season. According to average player ratings from sports papers, the Fiorentina keeper is the third-best performer in the league.

De Gea joined Fiorentina on a free transfer last summer after taking a sabbatical. He had left Manchester United in 2023 after 12 years at the club.

His ex-teammate McTominay has also had an immediate impact at his club, Napoli, with three goals and three assists in 15 Serie A games this term.

The Scotland international completed a €30.5m transfer last summer, prompting several pundits to criticise Manchester United for letting him leave. Ex-Serie A and West Ham star Paolo Di Canio even said he would “arrest” the Red Devils’ directors for selling the 28-year-old.
