After Thuram and Pavard, a further two Nerazzurri players have made it to the Euro 2024 semi-finals. They are Stefan De Vrij and Denzel Dumfries, who were involved in the Netherlands' 2-1 victory over Hakan Calhanoglu's Türkiye.

It was a hard-fought and entertaining match at the Olympiastadion in Berlin, where the Turks took a first-half lead thanks to a goal from Akaydin. The Netherlands regrouped at the break and raised the tempo in the second half, with De Vrij (the match MVP) and Dumfries making significant contributions. In fact, the two Nerazzurri players, who played the full 90 minutes, took centre stage for the Oranje's goals: De Vrij scored the equaliser with a 70th-minute header, while Dumfries' cross led to Muldur's own goal to complete the comeback in the 76th minute.

Türkiye captain Hakan Calhanoglu, who also featured for the entire match, did his utmost to try to lead his team to an equaliser in the closing stages, but the Netherlands held firm in defence.

There was also disappointment for Yann Sommer, whose Switzerland were eliminated by England in the opening game of the day. After taking a 75th-minute lead through Embolo, the Swiss were pegged back by Saka's equaliser five minutes later. The match thus went to extra time and, with neither side finding a winner, then penalties. Palmer, Bellingham, Saka, Toney and Alexander-Arnold all converted from the spot for England, while Schar, Shaqiri and Amdouni scored for Switzerland. However, Pickford's save to thwart Akanji proved decisive.

De Vrij and Dumfries' tournament continues: the Netherlands will face England on 10 July for a place in the final.
