Inter are cooking up at least one significant defensive addition, but there won’t be a large overhaul, as agent Federico Pastorello stated that Stefan De Vrij would stay put in the 2025/2026 season in an interview with Radio Sportiva.
“He’s been with them for many years, and he’s happy. Even though they are deep defensively, there’s room for everybody since they play 60 matches in a campaign. There are no doubts about his permanence for at least another year, then we’ll see.”
Pastorello represents Francesco Acerbi on top of De Vrij, who could be on his way out if Inter wanted to get younger at the position.
“He has always done great things on the pitch, while he’s very discreet and quiet outside of it. He’s very noticeable in matches. His years in Milan have been fantastic. Simone Inzaghi pushed to sign him because he knew his skills well. He was looking for somebody for a precise role, and there weren’t many alternatives. Dealing with Lazio is always complicated, and his age didn’t help the negotiation, but the coach’s strong will prevailed. It’s one of those signings that will be remembered for a long time, as his performances have been extraordinary.”
Other than some injuries, none has shown signs of decline, and surely the boss would be happy to keep having them. It remains to be seen whether that aligns with the management and the owners’ wishes, as they have been vocal about rejuvenating the squad. They could always keep both, as the former can deputize Alessandro Bastoni too, and add, but their backline would be a bit overcrowded.
