One late summer window transfer deal failed to get done last night in the final hours, and Chelsea will be disappointed not to get it over the line.
There will obviously be another opportunity for deals to get done down the line in the January transfer window, but for some players, that will feel like a long time away yet.
It looks like David Datro Fofana will be stuck at Chelsea this season after his proposed move to AEK Athens is now off, according to Fabrizio Romano late last night.
The Greek transfer window was open until last night, but it looks like any late attempt by Chelsea and AEK to get a deal done, did not happen in time and seemingly this will be down to not being able to agree the final fee and details on the deal.
No deal
Romano simply posted on X last night:
‘David Datro Fofana and AEK Athens, deal OFF.’
Fofana is unlikely to be getting much action in the Chelsea first team now he has stayed here, but I guess the plan might be to keep him fit in the U21s and there will be some chances for games there.
I am speculating of course as none of us know what will happen now with Fofana, but this is just yet another situation that is far from ideal. Chelsea clearly wanted the player to move on but now they are stuck with just another extra player hanging around and not playing senior football,
