There was late drama in Perth after Denmark saw off China courtesy of a 90th-minute winner.
Scorers: Vangsgaard 90′.
Denmark appeared taken aback by China’s fast start as they pressed the Danes into their own half and were unlucky not to open the scoring with Zhang Linyan testing Lene Christensen with a strike from the edge of the area.
But their early efforts brought no reward and Lars Søndergaard’s side grew into the game and should have moved ahead in the second half.
Nicoline Sorensen’s cross found it’s way to Josefine Hasbo at the back post with the goal gaping but the midfielder got under the ball and the header flashed over the top.
Pernille Harder then looked as if she was certain to bag with another Sorensen cross landed into her path but a last-gasp clearance from Chen Ojaozhu denied a certain goal.
It looked as if the game was going to play out into a goalless draw until substitute Amalie Vangsgaard popping up to become the hero for her country with the late winner.
The forward got on to the end of Harder’s corner before heading past Xu Huan and sending the Danish bench into raptures.
Denmark will go into their clash with England on Friday with three points apiece, with China meeting Haiti on the same day.
