Departing Barcelona star ‘was offered to Real Madrid’ | OneFootball

A transfer-linked member of the first-team ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona was last summer offered to the club’s fiercest rivals.

That’s according to Marca’s José Félix Díaz, who points towards İlkay Gündoğan as the player in question.

The name of midfielder Gündoğan has of course dominated the headlines across all of Europe over the course of the last 24 hours.

This comes amid widespread confirmation that the German international is all set to bring a close to his stint in Catalunya’s capital, after just a solitary year.

And yet, as alluded to above, had things played out just a little differently, Gündoğan could have found himself part of an altogether more prosperous project in La Liga…

As per a report from José Félix Díaz, prior to penning terms with Barcelona in 2023 following the expiration of his Manchester City contract, Gündoğan was offered up to Real Madrid.

The board at the Santiago Bernabéu, however, rejected the proposal, with it reiterated that ‘nothing has changed’ since.
