Derby County's 1-0 win over Cardiff City on Saturday will only ever be remembered for one reason.

Kenzo Goudmijn scored the only goal of the game just before the half-hour mark, placing the ball past Jak Alnwick from 10 yards after the Rams worked the ball excellently down the left.

Paul Warne's team had to battle to defend their lead throughout the second half, with goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterstrom providing yet another string of saves to keep out Cardiff, denying Callum O'Dowda, Dimitrios Goutas and Rubin Colwill on separate occasions. The Swede was also forced into action to stop Eiran Cashin and Ryan Nyambe from turning into their own net.

Derby recorded their third Championship win of the season, and their ninth straight home league win in a row, the club's best run since 1975 - when they won the First Division.

Despite this, the most memorable part of the 97 minutes came right at the very end, with Ebou Adams providing the miss of the century.

Cashin reacts to incredible Adams miss

The visitors had won a corner with just a minute to go, but the Rams were able to clear it up to the halfway line.

A marauding Adams closed down Cardiff goalkeeper Alnwick, beating the 31-year-old to the ball before closing down on an empty net. Pressure from Manolis Siopis definitely had an impact on the midfielder's shot, but the 28-year-old will still be in disbelief that he missed an open goal from inside the box with his left-footed effort dribbling past the post.

The midfielder's teammate, Cashin, playfully responded to his post, writing: "😂😂😂 some player bud..🔥shooting practice Monday👌"

Adams' performance was fantastic despite miss

Contrary to his mind-boggling miss, Adams was excellent against his former club, proving to Erol Bulut why Derby were so keen to bring him back to Pride Park Stadium this summer permanently after impressing on loan.

Adams was booked early in the game, and had to be extremely careful to not receive his marching orders, particularly after David Ozoh was forced off early in the second half due to injury. However, he was superb while on a yellow card, and was able to avoid any uncomfortable situations that could have seen him sent off.

Warne now has a tough decision to make over whom to partner the 28-year-old with against Sheffield United this weekend following Ozoh's injury. Nevertheless, the tenacity and desire of Adams that was proven by his miss will make it a lot easier for his next partner to slot in without a hitch.

However, there will be questions over Adams' training load this week, and whether it will be filled with shooting practice from 10 yards.
