Rangers face St Mirren today in the latest must-win match of a must-win season, and with quite a few injury headaches manager Philippe Clement won’t find the selection overly easy, depending on who makes it.
Ibrox Noise brings you our predicted XI for this afternoon in Govan.
Goals:
Jack Butland. Just like recent seasons, a badly out of form goalie is holding onto his jersey by default. He could concede 20 goals in a match and this manager won’t drop him.
Defence:
Tavernier, like Butland, is a guaranteed starter if fit. No point debating it. Souttar is in form and has become a Clement favourite at last, but we think it’ll be Propper beside him because Balogun not only is too old to play twice a week, but he pulled up midweek as well. It’ll be Jefte on the left because he’s actually doing ok and Ridvan isn’t ready.
Midfield:
Clement has a slight pickle here, one of his own making – he’s got three defensive midfielders who would all want to play, but his system only allows two. So it’s two of Sterling, Barron and Raskin. It’ll be Barron and Raskin, and more frustration for Sterling.
Attacking midfield:
Strangely enough the options are curious here. Aside Hagi, who is still suspended, there’s technically Alex Lowry (not a chance), Tom Lawrence if he’s fit, Mohamed Diomande as a possibility and Bajrami, but the manager won’t put the Albanian in the 10.
Wings:
We’re struggling here. Only Cerny is fit, alongside McCausland, and only one of them is actually good enough. Matondo and Cortes remain unavailable. And that’s all the options we have. Aside Bajrami on the left, of course.
Attack:
Well it’s Cyriel Dessers, Hamza Igamane, Danilo and Lovelace isn’t it?
But three of those stand no chance of starting aside injury, so it would be Dessers unless his eye issue hasn’t cleared up.
So your Ibrox Noise predicted XI:
Butland; Tavernier, Souttar, Propper, Jefte; Barron, Raskin; Bajrami; Cerny, McCausland; Dessers
Not a breathtaking Rangers team by any stretch.
